As mentioned in the "Blood Marks" section on this website, the blood on the Shroud is human male blood, type AB.  Because of the blood's age and exposure to the climates and atmospheres it has been subjected to, the DNA is to degraded for tests and experiments of this day to be performed upon it.  Therefore, while they are interesting to think about, stories of the cloning of the DNA to create "another Christ" or the Anti-Christ cannot be done.  Some have suggested that if we mix another human's DNA, with what we have of the Shroud, we could produce a clone.  While my background isn't anywhere near the scientific expertise that a cloning scientist would have, I would like to just offer these theological and spiritual thoughts.

First off, we need to keep in mind that Jesus is fully human and fully divine.  A question can be raised that if we have His blood and clone His humanity, would that necessitate the cloning of His Divinity?  In other words, if we can clone the human nature of Christ, would His divinity also be automatically cloned, or would the clone just be a human being that looks like Jesus.  Would it have the same human soul of Jesus?  Would any human clone have their own individual soul, or would they share the soul with the one that they are cloned from?  While I don't intend on answering these questions, I think they raise interesting thoughts to the idea of cloning Jesus, and any human for that matter.

Furthermore, other people hold the position that if we can trace the blood lineage of Christ (through the descendants of the brothers and the sisters that many hold He had), we can use their DNA to get even closer to that of Jesus.  While I don't intend to cause offense to those who hold the position that Jesus had brothers and sisters, my Catholic faith allows me to see some serious Biblical and Theological flaws with this position.  I would like to answer the theological flaws I see with this position first.

To say that there is a select group of people that share in the blood line of Jesus would seem to indicate that God's covenant (sealed in the blood of Christ) is only open to a select group--after all, wouldn't sharing in the bloodline of Christ be a select honor of importance?  The Scriptures constantly make note of many lineages and their importance.  Instead, the Catholics hold that all who are Baptized are brothers and sisters in Christ.  Furthermore, all are invited to share in the Blood of Jesus, for all are invited to share in the Eucharist and allow His flesh, which is real food, and His blood, which is real drink, to enter into their body, to flow through their veins, and to fill their very being until their cup runneth over.  The blood lineage of Christ extends and is available to all people who are willing, not a select group of people who happen to fall in the historic family lineage of Christ.

Scripturally, I would like to refer you to the article below by Catholic Answers which explains clearly where the Scriptures offer another insight to the Brethren of the Lord.
