The Shroud also shows us our natural end.  Many people seem to think that our natural end as human beings is death.  But that is not the case, for, "in the beginning it was not so.”  Death is an effect of original sin (see Genesis 3:19).  We were created to live, not to die, and we were created to live with God.  So the Shroud shows us this unnatural end in the blood stains that are left over from the death of Jesus.  But by this death, death itself was destroyed and we once again have the gift of eternal life with God as it was intended in the beginning.  This eternal life is revealed to us in the Shroud in the image of the resurrected Jesus, the new life that we, too, can share through grace and faith in Jesus the Christ.
